Hallstatt is one of my favorite places in the world, and I highly recommend staying at least one night in the quaint town. However, as a budget traveler going to Hallstatt, you’ll want to stay in one of the hostels or a cheap hotel.
While I had a hard time finding a hostel in Hallstatt, there are a few good options to consider if you are on a budget.

The best hostel in Hallstatt is the Hostel-Badgoisern. This hostel offers amazing mountain views from the terrace and has a lot of facilities for guests to enjoy. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, there’s a ski area nearby where you can experience skiing, cycling, hiking, and many more activities.

There are only a few hostels in Hallstatt, and none are in the town center, but they are good options when traveling on a budget.

Hostel-Badgoisern is the perfect mountain retreat, just 4 km from Lake Hallstatt.
Enjoy the terrace with mountain views, free WiFi, and a lively bar with a flat-screen TV, darts, and pool billiards.
Outdoor enthusiasts can ski, cycle, and hike, with bike rentals available. In winter, a heated ski storage room and a free ski bus to the Gosau Ski Area are close by.
Explore Hallstatt (15 minutes away) or the “Five Fingers” via an easy 15-minute bus or train ride. The bus station is 3 minutes away, and the train station is 4 minutes away. From the train station, you can go to the Hallstatt station, then hop on the Hallstatt ferry to get to town.
You’ll also find various restaurants and a grocery shop just a 2-minute walk away.
The hostel has bunk beds in mixed dormitories (6-bed and 4-bed rooms), all heated in winter. Bathrooms are in the corridor, and the hostel provides bed linen and towels. Upon request and for a small fee, you can enjoy a daily breakfast.
