The easiest way to travel from Vienna to Hallstatt is by taking a train from Vienna’s main station (Wien Hauptbahnhof) to Hallstatt station. You will have to transfer trains at Attnang-Puchheim and then take a ferry across Lake Hallstatt. The journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, offering scenic views of the Austrian countryside.

Alternatively, you can drive, with the road trip taking a similar duration.

2. Hallstatt To Vienna

For the return journey from Hallstatt to Vienna, a convenient option is to catch a train from Hallstatt station to Wien Hauptbahnhof, Vienna’s main train station, again with a transfer.

If you drove to Hallstatt, you’ll likely end up driving back to Vienna, with a similar travel time.
