One thing I liked about Belize is that you can build very different trips depending on what you want. You can spend time on islands, explore Mayan ruins, go snorkeling, or head into the jungle for more adventure.
Here are some of the top places to visit in Belize:
- Caye Caulker: Caye Caulker was one of the places that stood out most to me. The island has a slower pace and is known for snorkeling, diving, and easy access to the Belize Barrier Reef. The “Go Slow” motto fits the atmosphere perfectly.
- Ambergris Caye: Ambergris Caye is one of Belize’s most popular destinations and home to San Pedro. It is a good option if you want more restaurants, activities, and easier access to tours and water excursions.
- Mayan ruins: Belize has several impressive Mayan sites, including Caracol, Xunantunich, and Altun Ha. If you enjoy history or archaeology, visiting at least one of these sites is worth adding to your trip.
- ATM Cave: Actun Tunichil Muknal, usually called ATM Cave, is one of the most unique experiences in Belize. It combines hiking, cave exploration, water crossings, and ancient Mayan history all in one tour.
- Wildlife and nature reserves: Belize also has wildlife areas like Cockscomb Basin and the Belize Zoo if you want more nature and outdoor experiences beyond the beaches.
