1 Day in Prague Itinerary

Prague is one of my favorite cities in the world, and even one day in Prague is well worth it to enjoy the food and see the unique architecture. Here is the best 1 day Prague itinerary, broken into morning, lunch, afternoon, and evening.

Morning

The cathedral in Prague

Good morning, and welcome to Prague! To start the day, grab some breakfast and get ready for a long but fun day! I recommend Mistral Cafe, which is a cute breakfast spot.

When you’re ready to start exploring, it’s time for a self-guided walking tour. After spending a lot of time in Prague, I have created the ultimate walking tour of the city that takes you to all the best spots, and keeps the uphill walking to a minimum!

To start your day, take a tram up to the Pohořelec tram stop. You will go past the “castle stop” by two stops, but you can go to the viewpoint and then walk down to the castle.

Here are the must-see sights during your walking tour, in the order that you will visit them:

  • Strahov Garden Viewpoint
  • Prague castle + St. Vitus Cathedral
  • Lennon Wall
  • Charles Bridge
  • Astronomical Clock – You can go up the tower here and get some amazing views!
  • Church of Our Lady before Týn

Lunch

I recommend getting lunch between the castle and the bridge. There are lots of touristy spots if you want something easy, or go a few blocks off the main streets, and you will run into the smaller, local spots. It’s pretty easy to find small local restaurants when you aren’t near the clock or the castle, but most of them only take cash.

Here are the foods you should try during your 1 day in Prague:

  • Chimney cakes
  • Fried cheese
  • Soup (goulash, garlic soup, etc.)

If you want, a beer with lunch in Prague is a welcome addition, and it’s what the Czech locals would do 🙂

Afternoon

After lunch, continue your walking tour through the city. Here are the stops I recommend saving for the afternoon, all of which are close together:

  • Charles Bridge
  • Astronomical Clock
  • Church of Our Lady before Týn

Evening

the pub, a restaurant in prague

For dinner, head to The PUB, where you can pour your own beer right at your table. They have great Czech food too!

Make sure you try some of the foods listed above under lunch that you didn’t try earlier!

If you want a cool experience to end your day in Prague, head to Karlovy Lazne – a five-story club with an Ice Bar.

Me and my friends had fun here, but there are more authentic places to go if you want the real Czech nightlife experience.

More Things to Do in Prague

If the suggested things to do in Prague in one day above don’t fit your travel style, here are more activities to consider:

  • National Museum
  • Jewish Cemetery
  • The Old-New Synagogue
  • Franz Kafka Museum

Tours to Book in Prague

Booking a tour in Prague is a great way to maximize your time there and see the top sites, especially if you don’t want to explore and navigate on your own. Plus, there are a huge variety of tours, so everyone can find something that interests them!

Tips for One Day in Prague

A tram in Prague

Here are some tips to make your one day in Prague the best it can be!

  • Use Public Transport: Prague’s public transit is reliable, affordable, and easy to navigate. Trams and metros will get you almost anywhere in the city quickly. Grab a 24-hour or 3-day pass for the best value.
  • Carry Some Cash: While most places accept cards, smaller restaurants, cafés, and souvenir shops may only take cash. The currency is Czech koruna (CZK), and it’s best to withdraw from ATMs for a fair exchange rate.
  • Avoid Tourist Traps: Skip restaurants in the main squares and opt for places down quieter streets for better food and prices.
  • Time Your Visits: Popular spots like Charles Bridge and Prague Castle get crowded fast. Visit early in the morning or in the late afternoon for a more peaceful experience.
  • Wear Comfortable Shoes: Prague’s cobblestone streets are beautiful but tough on your feet. Be ready for a lot of walking and uneven surfaces.
